Mission Viejo Mesothelioma

MISSION VIEJO, CALIFORNIA OVERVIEW

Mission Viejo, is in Orange County, California. It is 17.2 miles from Santa Ana, 48.5 miles from Los Angeles, and 74 miles from San Diego.  According to the 2022 United States Census Bureau its population is estimated as 91,776. Mission Viejo is well known as a purposefully designed suburban community.

Orange County was home to the Tongva and Acjachemen Indian tribes but the Spaniards named them the Gabrieleno and the Juaneno Indians after the San Gabriel Mission and the San Juan Capistrano Mission.  In 1848, all of California was ceded to the United States pursuant to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hildago. The city of Mission Viejo was built on part of a Spanish land grant.

James C. Flood purchased Rancho Santa Margarita y Las Flores and Richard O’Neil became his manager and subsequently his 50%  partner.  In the 1940’s, the Flood and O’Neil heirs divided Rancho Santa Margarita and a part of the division–53,000 acres became known as Rancho Mission Viejo.

In 1963, the O’Neil heirs sold 11,000 acres of Rancho Mission Viejo for residential development to Donald Bren, Philip Reilly and James Toepfer. The Mission Viejo Company was formed which included three of the O’Neil heirs as members of the Mission Viejo Company Board of Directors. From 1963 to 1993, the Mission Viejo Company developed the 11,000 acres into one of the largest master-planned communities in the United States. Mission Viejo is a suburban, self-contained community with 3000 acres of open spaces, including bicycle paths and hiking trails and Lake Mission Viejo. The homes were designed with architectural features of the Rancho’s Spanish heritage.

Mission Viejo is also known for sports, including Little League baseball, AYSO soccer and aquatic sports through its Nadadores swim team.  In 1984, it hosted the cycling road race portion of the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
