Mountain View Mesothelioma

Mountain View, California Overview

According to the 2022 United States Census data, it is estimated that over 81,000 people make their home in Mountain View.  The city covers an area of 11.96 square miles in Santa Clara County.  Mountain View has been changed from its agricultural and shipping origins and presently is considered a vital part of Silicon Valley.  The City is home to the headquarters of many tech companies, including Microsoft, Google, Intuit, and Synopsys.

Tamien speaking people, now known as the Ohlone were the indigenous inhabitants of Santa Clara County, including Mountain View.  Their way of life was changed forever with the European conquest and the establishment of Mission Santa Clara de Asis in 1777.  The Mission Indians used the land that is now Mountain View as sheep and cattle pastures.

In 1854, the Mexican Government issued to Mariano Castro the land grant Rancho Pastoria de las Borregas (Sheep Pasture Ranch).  Mountain View is situated on part of the old Rancho Pastoria de las Borregas land grant.  Mountain View’s main street “Castro St.” is named after Mariano Castro. Additionally, the northern part of Mountain View near Moffett Field sits on part of the 1844, land Grant of Rancho Posolmi.

In the 1850’s, Mountain View began as a stagecoach station near Grant and El Camino.  In 1864, the train from San Francisco stopped at the Mountain View Station.  The Castro Family was granted the Castro Station near their home, after allowing the railroad to run through their ranch.  The Castro Station operated until it was replaced in 1999, by the San Antonio Station.  Mountain View incorporated as a town on November 7, 1902.  In the early 1900s, Mountain View was known for shipping fruit and grain which formed the backbone of the local economy for many years.

Moffett Field Naval Air Station operated from 1933 until 1991, in and near Mountain View.  In 1939, The Ames Laboratory of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA, the predecessor of NASA) began flight research.  With Moffett Field located in the northern part of Mountain View,  and the Ames research group, the aerospace and electronic industry continued to propagate in the area.

In 1956, Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory developed the first silicon semiconductor devices in Mountain View. After World War II, Mountain View’s population flourished due to an influx of military personnel, civilians and the growth of cutting-edge industry in the area.  Today, it endures as home to many High Tech, Artificial Intelligence, Educational and Medical Companies, including Waymo, Symantec, Moveworks, Healthtech, Eightfold AI, Lark Health and Coursera.
