Yuba City Mesothelioma

Yuba City is located in Northern California.  It has been the seat of Sutter County since 1856. Yuba City sits in the Sacramento Valley, at the fork of the Feather and Yuba Rivers.  The United States Census Bureau estimated that in 2022, Yuba City’s population was 64,014.  Yuba City is situated about 2 miles from Marysville, 36 miles from Roseville, 45 miles from the city of Sacramento and about 125 miles from San Francisco. Yuba City was settled in 1849.  It was incorporated on January 23, 1908.

The indigenous people in the Yuba City area were the Maidu or Nisenan Indians.  The Maidu villages extended from the Sacramento Valley all the way to the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  The Maidu name translates to “The People.”  Many native tribes perished from European diseases. Also, during the California Gold Rush, miners displaced the remaining tribes.

Yuba City lies on an old Mexican land grant named New Helvetia which was given to John Sutter. In 1849, Sutter sold the part of the land grant that was on the site of a former Indian Village, to Samuel Brannan, Pierson B. Reading and Henry Cheever. While laying out a town design these new owners destroyed several Indian burial mounds.

In the mid-1800s, Yuba City was a major supplier for the Gold Rush miners.  Yuba City sits in the middle of California’s agricultural hub. Yuba City’s early economy was based on agriculture, lumber, and food processing plants. Yuba City is still home to Sunsweet Growers Inc., the world’s largest dried fruit processing plant.

Yuba City’s economy was also bolstered by Beale Air Force Base. After World War II, Yuba City had a substantial population growth and many agricultural fields and orchards gave way to residential developments. However, agriculture still plays a role in the area because Yuba City is surrounded by rice crops and orchards.

Yuba City’s economy is complemented by the Air Force/U.S. Army, steel fabrication, light industry, and gas companies.  Yuba City has diverse business companies such as, Anacapa Oil Company, Golden State Natural Gas, Trik Concepts, Sierra Gold Nursery, URC Fabrication (race cars), and many other companies in the area.

Sutter County is home to the largest Sikh community outside of India. Most of the Sikh residents are in South Yuba City where 20% of the residents are Asian Indian, and largely Punjabi. For over 40 years Yuba City has held the largest Sikh festival outside of India. It has been estimated that over 100,000 people have attended the three day event.
